Anyone knows of a USB packet driver for DOS ?

I would like to run my DOS Internet programs (Lynx, eLinks, Arachne,
Telnet and Yarn) by tethering from an Android phone.

Thanks

I'm afraid this is a way too ambitious goal... USB alone is a huge mess
already, without throwing networking into there.

A very realistic work-around could be to use WiFi for your tethering.
Then, on the DOS side, either use one of the (rare) WiFi adapters that
come with DOS drivers (AFAIK these are limited to 802.11b, which may or
may not be compatible with your android phone) or - much simpler - attach
a WiFi-Ethernet bridge to your DOS computer.

Alternatively, you could use one of those RPi3 things to attach your DOS
PC to (through Ethernet), and make them route networking over USB or
anything else they are capable of using (WiFi, Bluetooth...).

I found this:

Could be interesting.

Sure. Note however, that you don't have to look necessarily for something
that have "bridge" in its name. All standard access points I have seen
can be configured to work in bridge mode. For one of my DOS-based
computers, I use a cheap DWL-G700AP:

I think I payed for it something like 20 Euros many years ago. Works
perfectly.

The model you suggested doesn't have any visible antenna. I wonder what
kind of range one could expect with that.

Thank you very much for your idea, Mateusz.

I found that this wifi repeater has an ethernet output and is sold in
Argentina for aprox € 20.- (VAT included):

https://articulo.mercadolibre.com.ar/MLA-617195028-extensor-de-senal-wifi-tp-link-tl-wa850re-repetidor-850re-_JM

I think I will buy it next week and then inform you if I can still
navigate the internet with my 40MHz 80386 using wifi.

FWIW, I have myself a TP-Link WA801ND at home. When I bought it two years
ago, it was unable to operate in any other way than a dumb repeater. I
had to upgrade its firmware to unlock the "Access Point" and "Bridge"
modes.

The one you point to seems to be safe, though. I found this:
http://static.tp-link.com/res/down/doc/TL-WA850RE_V1.2_UG_EU.pdf

And there:
"It will enlarge your existing wireless network and mobility within your
wireless network while also allowing you to connect a wired device to a
wireless environment."

So it would appear that it's exactly what you need indeed.

Thanks Mateusz.

I found at home an unused TP-Link Router TL-WR740N.
I will try to use it as an "extender" and wire it to my 80386 first.
